Metformin (Metformin HCL)

Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic agent and one of the most widely prescribed medications worldwide for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Metformin has been used clinically for over 60 years with an extensive safety record.

Side Effects

Common side effects, particularly during dose initiation: - Nausea and vomiting - Diarrhea - Abdominal discomfort or bloating - Metallic taste - Decreased appetite - Flatulence Stop using and contact your doctor if you experience: - Symptoms of lactic acidosis (unusual muscle pain, difficulty breathing, unusual fatigue, stomach pain) - Signs of vitamin B12 deficiency (numbness, tingling, weakness) - Severe allergic reaction Note: Lactic acidosis is rare but serious.
